  10. <p>The Academy was established in April 1954 but remained at Lowry AFB until facilities were completed in August 1958. AFA has a staff of 2,500 and approximately 4,400 cadets and 220 preparatory school students. The Academy has a small airfield housing a squadron of T-3As to provide primary flight training to cadets, a TG-7A motor glider squadron, and a Cessna 150 for the cadet flying team.
